688 | The Gooderham family and the Lee family appeared to have had a number of connections in the early years of Toronto (York). Verbal family history ( now written down ) relates that Joseph Lee arrived in Canada at the same time as Gooderham and Worts, having traveled from England on the same ship. Joseph Lee is mentioned at least three times in the document "The Windmill and It's Time" Page 39, Page 70 and again on Page 76. There are three marriages between the families that relate to Joseph Lee: 1. Rachel Bell George ( Great Granddaughter of Joseph Lee) Married: Alexander Leslie Gooderham - April 20, 1921 2. Walter Cecil Lee ( Grandson of Joseph Lee) Married: Alice Wilmott Gooderham - April 23, 1889 3. Charlotte Wheeler Taylor ( Granddaughter of Joseph Lee) Married: Melville Ross Gooderham - Sept 15, 1898 As told to Gay Gooderham by Robert (Bob) Ross, a great great great grandson of Joseph Lee. One of his daughters was named Edith Oldroyd. The Oldroyd name came from her G Grandmother Rachel Oldroyd who married John Lee on April 2, 1771 in St. Georges, Hanover Square (I assume England). John Lee was Joseph Lee's Grandfather) | Lee, Joseph (I2265)

690 | The James Morrison Brass Mfg Co. was founded in Toronto in 1864. The business prospered and was able to relocate in 1872 to larger premises on Adelaide Street West. In addition to brass founding and finishing, the company did business in engineers, steamfitters, plumbers and gas fitters’supplies. In 1891, the firm moved again to a new factory in Mimico. At that point in time, the comopany was employing 150 people. In 1930, the company was acquired by the Equitable Securities Corporation of Montreal & Toronto, becoming the Morrison Brass Corporation. It was one of only four Canadian companies making cast iron, steel & brass valves, high quality brass & bronze for pulp & paper plants, locomotive & marine equipment, plumbing, heating products, and gauges for steam, air & water. The last reference I can find about the firm is its involvement in a 1956 scandal investigated by the Ontario Securities Commission. Apparently, sometime in the 1960's it was acquired by the Cincinnati-based Luckenheimer Valve Company, which itself fell victim to a hostile takeover from Condec in 1968, and then in 1994 became the Cincinnati Valve Company. https://progress-is-fine.blogspot.com/2015/09/we-used-to-make-things-in-this-country_17.html | Morrison, James (I2091)
